Patricia A. Jones, M.M.E. Of CounselPatti Jones’ distinguished legal career melds her extensive background in music, the arts and education with her passion for guiding and supporting those in entertainment and the performing arts.

Garnering experience from time spent as a music educator, choral conductor, director of musical theatre productions, professional singer, and published author, Patti’s personal connection with the entertainment world has given her a  unique and singular perspective in the counseling and advising of her creator and creative economy clients.

Patti established her solo entertainment/Intellectual Property law practice in 1993, securing her first major label record company contract in 1995.  Today, Patti advises a diverse roster of international clients across a broad spectrum of entertainment genres, which in addition to musicians, songwriters, record producers, independent record labels, music publishers, recording studios, music licensing companies, and personal managers include video game companies, software developers, reality show talent, television show creators/ TV production companies, independent filmmakers, literary authors and extreme sports leagues. She routinely advises entertainment clients in connection with personal services/talent agreements, production agreements, nondisclosure agreements, merchandising agreements, sponsorship agreements, and advises and counsels on trademark and copyright ownership, administration and licensing.

Patti continues her commitment to education transferring her skills as an educator from music to law.  She has served as adjunct faculty in Entertainment Law at New England Law/Boston since 2004. In 2017, Patti joined Boston University Law School’s faculty as adjunct lecturer in Intellectual Property Transactions in Media and Entertainment in the LLM American Law Program. During the winter term of 2017, Patti had the honor of participating in the prestigious US State Department Fulbright Fellowship Program. Lecturing in the schools of Arts and Culture, Business and Law at Newcastle University, Newcastle, England as a Fulbright Specialist, Patti also advised and counselled the creative economy and digital entertainment communities in the greater Newcastle/Sunderland region of Northumberland, England.

A former co-chair of the Copyright Society USA New England Chapter, Patti has also served as a featured speaker, presenting at Harvard University Law School, Boston University Law School, Suffolk University Law School, New England Law/Boston, Boston Bar Association, Berklee College of Music, Salem State University, Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, the Arts and Business Council of Boston, the Newcastle/Sunderland Chamber of Commerce and Newcastle International Film Festival in Newcastle, England.

Patti is a graduate of Suffolk University Law School, holds a Master’s Degree in Music Education from the Conservatory at the University of Missouri, an A.B. in Music and French from Ripon College in Ripon, Wisconsin and has studied at The Sorbonne, Paris IV and at the Berklee College of Music.

She is the author of ONE MAN’S BLUES: The Life and Music of Mose Allison published by Quartet Books, London.

Patti is admitted to the bars in Massachusetts and New York.

She is a fluent French speaker and dual citizen of France.
